Sun Milk, LLC’s All-natural Sunscreen is formulated with premium beneficial ingredients such as Organic Cold-pressed Coconut Oil (Natural SPF 2-8), Organic Unrefined Cold-pressed Red Raspberry Seed Oil (Natural SPF 28-50), Organic Cold-pressed Sweet Almond Oil (Natural SPF 5), Organic Non-nano Zinc Oxide (SPF 55), Organic Unrefined Cold-pressed Carrot Seed Oil (Natural SPF 38-40).

BE ADVISED: ALWAYS SHAKE PRODUCT BEFORE USE!  Or as we like to say “Shake to Milk!!”  If it doesn’t look creamy white like milk, then it’s not fully mixed.  And same for Suntan although that should look like a dark chocolate milk when properly shaken.  So, be sure to “Shake to Milk” for full effect. 

This sunscreen product is mild and as natural as you're going to get! It is our opinion that synthetics of any kind should not be left on the skin to bake in the sun (that is essentially what sunscreen does). However, this product is not a substitute for basking in the intense sun for 2-3+ hours from 12-3 pm. Please be cautious. Use this product wisely.

As people learn about the dangers of mainstream sunscreens and move to all-natural products, there will be a learning curve as these all-natural products will require a different approach than the carcinogen-laden products of yesteryear. For example, if you have dry skin, the first application may soak in faster and thus require another application. Good news is you’ve just hydrated your skin with organic oils, and dry skin is more likely to burn than moist skin so you’re going in the right direction. If you don’t feel it on your skin then it’s time for more, just listen to your body. Once you learn to use Sun Milk products you will never go back to any mainstream toxic products ever again and your clean and healthy lifestyle will be underway!

Most sunscreens on the market have toxic ingredients and according to a 2014 Environmental Working Group study, research suggests that oxybenzone and other sunscreen chemicals can be toxic to reproductive systems and/or interfere with normal cell development. The state of Hawaii has now taken action and banned sunscreens with oxybenzone and octinoxate because of the damage (bleaching) it is doing to our coral reefs worldwide.

This is a natural product. We do not use any silicones, phthalates, or liquid polymers of any kind to keep the zinc suspended. Please shake well before each use. Similarly, because we don't use synthetic solubilizers or emulsifiers in this product it is difficult to make a completely natural product with the same lotion consistency for someone in Alaska versus the Bahamas (this organic product is temperature sensitive). Much of our sunscreen is organic unrefined cold pressed virgin coconut oil; it melts instantly on the skin. If your home is very cold it may prove difficult to get out of the bottle, you may need to keep it in a warmer area of your home.

This is a 100% all-organic and all-natural product.

We recommend applying 15-30 minutes prior to sun exposure and every 1-2 hours or after sweating or swimming. That said, everyone is different so please re-apply as often as necessary. Keep an eye on children and babies (also use hats that cover the neck and long sleeves in the hot summer months). Remember, the point in using sunscreen is to not get burned.

What makes your sunscreen natural?

Our sunscreen is made with 100% natural ingredients, free from synthetic chemicals, parabens, and artificial fragrances. Unlike 97% of the sunscreens on the market, Sun Milk is 100% carcinogen-free. Sun Milk is simply 4 natural oils and non-nano, uncoated zinc oxide, which, unlike normal zinc oxide, is clean, healthy, and good for your skin and body. Even our production process, storage, and bottling is cleaner than any other sunscreen on the market—no plastic and no aluminum, ever.
Is your sunscreen safe for sensitive skin?

Yes! Our sunscreen is formulated with gentle, non-irritating ingredients, making it suitable for sensitive skin. It is free from harsh chemicals, synthetic fragrances, and preservatives that can cause irritation. Always perform a patch test before applying to larger areas. All of our ingredients are also non-comedogenic, so Sun Milk is wonderful for your face as well.
Is your sunscreen reef-safe?

Absolutely! Our sunscreen is 100% reef-safe. It contains no oxybenzone or octinoxate, two harmful chemicals known to damage coral reefs. We only use natural oils that are safe for both your skin and the environment. Not only is Sun Milk reef-safe but it is “human safe.” Many “reef-safe” sunscreens still have multiple carcinogens in them, Sun Milk does not.
How do I know if the sunscreen is effective?

Our sunscreen is broad-spectrum, meaning it protects against both UVA and UVB rays. It is formulated with mineral filters like non-nano uncoated zinc oxide, which is proven to provide effective sun protection, and every oil that we use has its own SPF rating. We recommend reapplying every one to two hours or more frequently if you're swimming or sweating. See Directions of Use on website.
What SPF do you offer?

We offer an SPF 15 and an SPF 30. SPF 30 offers good protection for everyday use, while SPF 15 is great for someone that already has some tan or is simply looking to get a bit of color. Also, it’s been proven that anything above SPF 30 is simply marketing, so we focused on the two SPFs most commonly used. Remember to reapply regularly, especially if you’re outdoors for extended periods.
How do I apply natural sunscreen properly?

For best results, apply a generous amount of sunscreen to all exposed areas of skin 15–20 minutes before sun exposure. Be sure to reapply every one to two hours, and after swimming, sweating, or towel drying.
Can I use Sun Milk sunscreen on my children?

Yes, our sunscreen is safe for children ages 6 months and older. We recommend
you check with your pediatrician before using any new products on infants under 6
months of age.
Will your sunscreen leave a white residue?

Mineral sunscreens leave a white residue. Tallow, beeswax, and shea butter sunscreens are hard to rub in and often leave a residue. Sun Milk was developed and tested to do away with these issues. Once you “shake to milk” your Sun Milk, it will come out white, but as you will see and unlike our competitors, Sun Milk blends perfectly and easily onto your skin leaving no residue. Many of our customers have said they’ll put it on just because of how amazing it makes their skin look and feel.
Are your products cruelty-free?

Yes! We are proudly cruelty-free. We never test our products on animals, and we ensure that our suppliers adhere to cruelty-free practices as well.
What if I have a skin condition, like eczema or rosacea—can I use your sunscreen?

Do you use any artificial fragrances or dyes?

No, we never use artificial fragrances, dyes, or preservatives. Our sunscreen is scented only with natural essential oils that provide a subtle, refreshing fragrance.
Is your sunscreen water-resistant?

Sun Milk is naturally not waterproof. The reason for this is simple: in order to create a "waterproof sunscreen," harsh chemicals have to be added—something we would never do. That said, Sun Milk is an oil-based sunscreen, so you will know when it’s no longer on your skin, and then you simply reapply.
Can I use your sunscreen on my face?

Yes, our sunscreen is non-comedogenic and is safe and effective for both face and body. We will be offering a formula designed for facial use with added hydration or mattifying effects, depending on your skin type, in the near future. This was born out of requests from our clients for a "face-only" Sun Milk. Coming soon.

How can I tell if my sunscreen is still effective after the expiration date?

Sunscreen effectiveness can decline after the expiration date, especially in terms of SPF protection. We always recommend using sunscreen within the shelf life indicated on the packaging for maximum effectiveness.

Is Sun Milk FDA approved?

No, FDA approval is only necessary for man-made ingredients. All of our ingredients are natural and thus do not need FDA approval, but more importantly, our ingredients are proven by hundreds of years of use..
Why does your SPF say “SPF’ish”?

All of our ingredients have a natural SPF range; for example, our Coconut Oil has an SPF of 2–8, while Carrot Seed Oil has an SPF of 38–40. Only the non-nano zinc oxide has a static SPF of 55, while the other four ingredients have a natural range; hence the “ish.” Please see our “Full Ingredients” list for a complete breakdown.
